Where is Zanzibar Island located?

Zanzibar Island is located in the Indian Ocean, off the eastern coast of Africa. It is situated approximately 22 miles (35 kilometers) from the mainland of Tanzania.

Geography: The island is characterized by its beautiful coastline with pristine sandy beaches and turquoise waters. The interior of the island features lush tropical forests, rolling hills, and fertile farmland.

The best time to visit Zanzibar island

Dry Season (June to October): This is generally considered the best time to visit Zanzibar. The weather is dry, with lots of sunshine and pleasant temperatures. The average temperatures range from 77°F to 86°F (25°C to 30°C), making it ideal for outdoor activities, such as beachcombing, snorkeling, and diving. The water is clear and calm during this period, which is perfect for underwater exploration. However, it’s also the peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and higher prices for accommodation and flights.

Short Rainy Season (November to December): During these months, Zanzibar experiences short and sporadic rains. While it’s generally not a continuous downpour, you might experience occasional showers. The island is still quite enjoyable during this time, with lush green landscapes and fewer tourists. This is a good time to visit if you prefer a quieter experience.

Long Rainy Season (March to May): The long rainy season, also known as the “masika” season, is characterized by heavy rainfall, high humidity, and the possibility of tropical storms. Many accommodations and businesses may close during this time, and outdoor activities can be limited. This period is not recommended for most tourists.

Hot Season (December to February): These months are characterized by hot and humid weather. While there’s less rainfall than during the long rainy season, it can still be uncomfortable due to the high humidity and temperatures. This is also the peak of the kaskazini (northern winds), which can make some beaches less appealing due to seaweed.
