Information about Tipping

What about Tipping after a Tanzania safari

Tipping in Tanzania, and even on safari, is considered normal and usually welcomed. Here’s a rough guide to what you might consider:

General Tipping Guidelines

Safari Guides:

$10-$20 per person per day, according to service

If you’re in a bigger group, you might want to tip at the higher end of the scale

Cook/Camping Staff:

On camping safaris, it is also expected that the cook and any support staff be tipped.

Lodge/Hotel Staff:

Hotel or lodge staff who have taken care of you should be tipped.

Other services, such as restaurant personnel may also deserve tips according to performance.

Currency:

They widely accept U.S. dollars, but they should be in a reasonable state such as no tears and no heavy wear and tear

Local currency, Tanzanian Shillings may also be applied for minimal tips.

Other Tips

Customise Your tips: Every person should give according to how well they have been serviced

Cultural Behaviour : Tipping is not mandatory, but if service is good this shows appreciation of work done.

Group Tips: If there are more than one of you traveling together, consider pooling tips for guides and staff.

Summary

Although not obligatory, tipping is a major part of the income of many service providers in Tanzania. Tipping generous and thoughtful can make your trip much smoother and a continued display of appreciation for the services rendered to you.
