Day to day Itinerary
Day 0: Arrival in Moshi
Description:
Arrive in Moshi, the gateway town to Mount Kilimanjaro. After check-in at your hotel, meet with your guides for a detailed briefing and gear check. Use this time to acclimatize, relax, and prepare for your climb.Overnight Stay: Moshi Hotel.
Day 1: Moshi to Marangu Gate (1,870m) to Mandara Hut (2,700m)
- Hiking Distance: ~8 km (5 miles)
- Hiking Time: 5–7 hours
- Habitat: Rainforest
Begin with a scenic drive to Marangu Gate for registration. Start the trek through lush rainforest trails with sights of exotic birds and monkeys. Arrive at Mandara Hut, where you’ll spend the night. A short hike to Maundi Crater is optional and provides great views of the surroundings.
- Overnight Stay: Mandara Hut (shared dormitory).
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720m)
- Hiking Distance: ~12 km (7 miles)
- Hiking Time: 6–8 hours
- Habitat: Heath and moorland
Ascend through heather and moorland zones. The trail offers breathtaking views of the summit and Mawenzi Peak. The path becomes steeper as you approach Horombo Hut, where you’ll settle in for the night.
- Overnight Stay: Horombo Hut (shared dormitory).
Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut (3,720m)
Description:
This extra day is critical for acclimatization to prevent altitude sickness. Take a short hike to Zebra Rocks (4,020m) or Mawenzi Ridge, which provides spectacular views of the summit and surrounding landscapes. Return to Horombo Hut for relaxation and preparation for the next stage.Overnight Stay: Horombo Hut (shared dormitory).
Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,703m)
- Hiking Distance: ~10 km (6 miles)
- Hiking Time: 6–8 hours
- Habitat: Alpine desert
Trek through an increasingly barren alpine desert landscape. Cross the “Saddle,” a wide, flat plain between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Arrive at Kibo Hut to rest and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.
- Overnight Stay: Kibo Hut (shared dormitory).
Day 5: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Horombo Hut (3,720m)
- Hiking Distance: ~22 km (14 miles) round trip
- Hiking Time: 12–16 hours
- Habitat: Arctic
Start your summit attempt at midnight. Trek through steep scree slopes and icy terrain, reaching Gilman’s Point (5,685m) before continuing to Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point. After taking in the incredible views, descend to Kibo Hut for rest, then proceed to Horombo Hut.
- Overnight Stay: Horombo Hut (shared dormitory).
Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate (1,870m) to Moshi
- Hiking Distance: ~20 km (12 miles)
- Hiking Time: 5–7 hours
- Habitat: Moorland and rainforest
Descend through lush rainforest trails to Marangu Gate. After collecting your certificate, transfer back to Moshi for a well-deserved celebration and relaxation.
- Overnight Stay: Moshi Hotel.
