You have heard of the amazing beaches, the 24/7 sun that melts your heart and soothes your soul, the cultural and historical splendor it holds as an island. Zanzibar, although being part of Tanzania having being merged 50 decades ago, holds its own government system. It is a beautiful island that leaves you craving for more. If you have never heard of Zanzibar, then I welcome you to the most beautiful experience you have ever seen.

There are some activities that would be an amazing experience for someone who would like to visit the island and no matter the number of times you have visited the place, you will still feel butterflies at the pit of your stomach.

Activities to do in Zanzibar

Spice tour;

The spice tour will definitely be an iconic moment for you as you will see and feel the different types of spices grown in the large farm set aside. Apart from that, you will also discover how some natural beauty products are made and what our ancestors used in the past to make themselves look more beautiful including perfumes and lipsticks. At the end of the tour will be a surprise for every visitor. You do not want to miss this experience.

Stone town tour;

Zanzibar was known to be the one of the biggest slave ports in Tanzania following Bagamoyo. Stone Town has a historical essence to it and you will be able to learn about its history including the slave trade, its abolitions, His Majesty Sultan Seyyid Said supported slave trade and the missionaries who came to stop it. I think it might make a soft heart shed a tear here and there but it will be information you would never want to miss. You could opt to have dinner at forodhani on this day and enjoy local food experience.

Prison Island;

Just as it’s name suggests, this was a small island a bit further from Zanzibar that kept slaves and prisoned the violent prisoners. The island holds a rich green colour to it and it is immensely beautiful due to the conservation that has been implemented. It also holds a tortoise sanctuary where you can take a look and even hold one of the largest tortoises you will ever see. While at it, why not take a swim and enjoy the beauty!

Snorkeling;

Zanzibar is the perfect place for having a snorkeling session in the large beautiful ocean. This activity will allow you to have the best view of different species of fish swimming in shoals inside the clear waters. It could take as long as you like but only if you get your tides right. I promise you will enjoy this activity and have it engraved inside your heart forever.

Jozari forest;

Enjoy your day with a nature walk at this amazing forest reserve. Get an incredible experience by walking in between large canopy trees, mangroves, eucalyptus and mahoganies. The forest is known to be crowded with Red Colobus monkeys and you can peacefully walk as you enjoy nature and wildlife unfold before your eyes.

Dolphin tour and snorkeling adventure;

At the north eastern side of Zanzibar lays the most beautiful and the smartest mammals in the ocean. The area has no crowds, which make it better in terms of time, but you will of course need a guide to help you navigate during the day. As you arrive at the place of venue, you might be surprised to find 10 dolphins at the shore of the Indian Ocean! There are about 1000 dolphins that are found at the area and that’s not even the fun part! You could actually go snorkeling with them too if you are an ocean lover.
